Cryptocurrency data aggregator CoinMarketCap has announced the launch of a novel plugin for premium users of the large-language model (LLM)-based artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT.
“Designed to operate as an AI crypto analyst, the plugin is capable of answering complex queries instantly by tapping into CMC’s real-time crypto data, all through simple chat prompts,” the Oct. 11 announcement said.
Users can access the feature by signing in to their ChatGPT Plus account, which has access to GPT-4, and simply enabling the plugin. After enabling the tool, users can ask the chatbot a wide range of crypto-related questions. The LLM has the ability to provide answers to various types of questions, ranging from basic inquiries like “What is the correlation between Bitcoin and Ethereum in 2023?” to more complex questions like “What was Bitcoin's performance during the month leading up to the US elections in the last three election cycles?”
The plugin is essentially free for premium users who already pay the $20-per-month subscription for ChatGPT Plus.
“The base ChatGPT has limited use to crypto enthusiasts, as data is mostly restricted up to Sept 2021. ChatGPT’s recently expanded web scanning capabilities likewise have limitations in serving real-time crypto data. Through the new CMC-Plugin, users can now gain access to up-to-date data directly sourced from CoinMarketCap, enabling users to keep up with the rapidly changing crypto landscape,” the CoinMarketCap team said in the press statement.
On Sept. 27, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT is no longer limited to data before 2021 and can now browse the web and integrate up-to-date information into its responses. The update is available to Plus and enterprise users, with the feature eventually becoming available to other users on an unspecified date.
Many cryptocurrency firms are already exploring ways to integrate AI tools into their systems. Binance, who owns CoinMarketCap, launched its AI non-fungible token (NFT) generator that lets users produce custom artwork.
More recently, in September, crypto exchange Bybit debuted its AI-powered “TradeGPT,” which generates trading insights and answers technical questions from its market data.
