The devastating category 4 Hurricane Helene has destroyed lives and homes and has also disrupted the operations of a Bitcoin mining firm.

With the power outage and flooding caused in the aftermath of the hurricane, CleanSpark’s, a Bitcoin miner firm, saw its hashrate fall to 10.5 exahashes per second from its previous 28 EH/S.

CleanSpark claimed they had to shut down the 365 MW on their Southeast Georgia sites as the hurricane impacted the region to ensure health and safety and to avoid any undue pressure on the electrical grid.

Highlighting the firm’s recovery process, CleanSpark’s CEO Zach Bradford said, “We have been in regular communication with the local utilities to safely bring up the sites in a manner that ensured the local community was supported throughout the process. Within 24 hours, we were able to bring hashrate back to over 17.5 EH/s.

According to the announcement, CleanSpark’s has already bought approximately 200 MW back and is expected to bring the remaining 165 MW online by October 4.

Furthermore, Bradford claimed, “We have also thoroughly evaluated all of our sites and are pleased to report that we have experienced no material damage to any site infrastructure. We are not aware of any material losses related to our mining servers and will continue this evaluation as we energize the remaining sites. ”

At the time of the announcement, Bradford claimed CleanSpark’s current hashrate is at 22 EH/s. Once the sites and operations are restored, the CEO of CleanSpark promised it is expected to reach at approximately 28 EH/s.
