Vacations are meant to be a relaxing time but, as is often the case, the lengthy processes involved in tasks such as booking, paying – and even checking in – take the shine off the experience.

The hospitality and tourism industry is now looking to combat these delays and annoyances by embracing the world of artificial intelligence and new tech. From revolutionizing the guest experience to smart energy management systems, innovation has been prioritized to help the industry succeed and grow for tomorrow.

Technology and innovation will be taking to the spotlight at Future Hospitality Summit – FHS World at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai with a host of dedicated presentations, debates and events.

Ahead of the MENA region’s largest, most influential hospitality and tourism event, industry leaders have been sharing insights into how tech is driving the sector forward.

It is hardly a surprise that artificial intelligence (AI) is at the forefront of new developments in the industry, but a new wave is also coming in the form of the more "human" Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

Nicolas Nasra, Head of Hotel Advisory, Hospitality & Tourism, Colliers in MENA, explained that while AI excels at specific tasks such as personalizing guest experiences and optimizing operations, it is limited to predefined functions.

“AGI will be capable of understanding and learning across a broad range of tasks, rather like humans," he said. "In hospitality, AGI could revolutionize operations by autonomously managing everything from dynamic pricing to real-time guest interactions.

“It could predict maintenance needs before issues arise and offer personalized travel advice that adapts with each interaction. Investing in AI today sets the stage for AGI to transform hospitality into a truly intelligent and adaptive experience."

Staying ahead of the game, many within the industry are also utilizing "the internet of things", a catch-all phrase to encompass devices with sensors, processing ability, software and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet.

“The Internet of Things is transforming hotels into smart environments, where room settings adapt to each guest’s preferences, enhancing comfort and satisfaction," added Nasra.

"Contactless technology has become essential, offering secure and seamless interactions through mobile check-ins and biometric payments. As sustainability gains importance, technologies that support eco-friendly practices, such as energy management systems, are critical for attracting environmentally conscious travelers.

“Also, cloud computing is centralizing operations, enabling hotels to scale efficiently while maintaining data security. These technologies are not just enhancing operations — they are all redefining the guest experience."
